Steps to calculate variance in Excel

Step 1: In a blank cell, type =VAR.S( to begin the formula.
Step 2: Select the range of cells that contain your data.
(Example: =VAR.S(A1:A10))
Step 3: Close the bracket and press Enter to calculate.

Result: Excel will return the sample variance of the selected range.

Tip: Use VAR.P instead if you're calculating variance for an entire population rather than a sample.
