Steps to create a fillable form in Word
- Step 1: Go to Word, then select Preferences. Click Ribbon & Toolbar if you're on a Mac, scroll down and check the box for Developer, then press Save.
- Step 2: Click the Developer tab.
- Option 1: Select Text Box to allow text input such as names.
- Option 2: Use Check Box to add selectable options.
- Option 3: Combo Box acts like a dropdown menu—right-click on it, type an item in the list, press the plus icon to add it, then click OK.
- Step 3: Click Protect Form to lock the layout and enable filling only.
Result: You now have a protected fillable form with interactive fields like text boxes, checkboxes, and dropdowns.
Tip: If you're on Windows, go to File, then select Options, click Customize Ribbon, and check the box for Developer to enable the Developer tab.
